Today I was invited to a poster presentation by Lakehead University and Confederation College (Thunder Bay) Nursing students; Marla Allard, Mirnada Thibeault and Robyn Wideman. Their topic, Suicide Prevention.

Driven by professionalism and personal experiences with suicide, their messages were loud and clear; (1) Suicide knows no boundaries (2) We need to talk about suicide NOW.

Congratulations for your personal and professional commitments in creating a dialogue on suicide, advocating for suicide prevention training and doing your part to break the stigma that surrounds suicide.

Not Talking About It Isn’t Working.

  1. Your poster looks beautiful. I wonder if you have any closeups so that it can be read online and shared with others?

Keep up the good work. Nurses are on the frontline of defense!

  2. Great job ladies. It is wonderful when young professionals have the desire and passion to speak up about suicide and how together we can help to make a difference.

  3. So happy to see your beautiful poster and learn of your presentation. I too am a nurse and a survivor, I lost my beautiful daughter to suicide 2 years ago. Since the beginning of my journey I have tried to bring awareness with my colleagues, friends and anyone else willing to listen. It brings me hope when I hear of young nurses willing to be part of this crusade. There is so much to be done, your voices will make a difference. Well done! 🙂

  4. I love to see student nurses creating awareness around such an extremely important issue. As a survivor of my sons suicide and a nurse myself, I commend you on such a wonderful presentation. I am wondering if you have copies of this presentation that can be sent my way. Carol (Cashen) Rolfe Nova Scotia
